Article IV:

Membership

SECTION A. CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP

​

 

        A. Active member: Sworn personnel of the Maryland State Police endorsed by the Board of Directors and approved by the quorum or general body. Active members retain all voting privileges after entering the DROP program.

        B. Associate Members: Upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors or from the general membership, any sworn police officer of an allied agency, or any civilian, who displays an interest in furthering the objectives of the Organization, may be considered for membership in the Organization as an Associate member. An associate member does not have voting privileges, nor may they hold an elected or appointed office. Furthermore, an associate member is exempt from paying dues.        C. Honorary Member: A person not an active, retired or associate member of the Maryland State Police, who displays an interest in furthering the objectives of the Organization. Upon a recommendation from the Board of Directors and/or the general membership, and final approval from the general body, a person may be classified as an honorary member of the Organization. An Honorary member does not have voting privileges, nor may they hold an elected or appointed office. Furthermore, an honorary member is exempt from paying dues.

 

       D. Retired Member: After final approval by the general body, an active member of the Organization, who has retired from service with the Maryland State Police, will be classified as a Retired member. Retired members retain all voting privileges.

 

      SECTION B. MEMBERSHIP

 

       The following requirements must exist to obtain valid membership in the Organization:

1. Membership shall be limited to all active and retired personnel and honorary personnel of the Maryland State Police or any sworn police officer or civilian that displays an interest in furthering the objectives of the Organization.

2. Eligibility for membership in the Organization will not be determined on the basis of race, religion, sex, creed, national origin, sexual orientation or physical disability.

      SECTION C.

 

     APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP

 

     Application for membership shall be in writing, on the form established by the Membership Committee. The membership application shall be decided by a quorum in attendance at the general meeting.

1. Objection to Application for Membership: Should there be an objection to an application for membership by any member of the Organization, such objection shall be referred to the Membership Committee for reconsideration of the application. The objection should be included in the Membership Committee’s report of the application.

2. Rejection of Application for Membership: Any application for active or associate membership in the Organization rejected by the general body shall not be eligible to apply again for a period of not less than six (6) months from the date of rejection.

      B. Any former member desiring reinstatement to the Organization must submit their request in writing on the form prescribed by the Membership Committee. The membership application shall be decided by a quorum in attendance at a general meeting.
